The Casio sauna watch is one of the latest “interesting” watches produced by Casio. Before it was the ring watch, calculator watch, a watch inspired by a katana, and now it’s the sauna watch. It was Casio’s employee for this watch concept and brought it closer to production. The new design of the Casio Sauna Watch CPP-002 allows it to be used in a sauna, where typical watches usually can’t withstand high humidity.
Origin of the Casio Sauna Watch
First, it’s important to understand the context of this watch, as it has an intriguing story. Currently, it’s intended only for the Japanese market and is being crowdfunded on the Japanese site, Makuake. The campaign launched on December 2, 2024, and will run for three months, with deliveries expected by late June 2025. It has surpassed its fundraising goals, raising 1,288% on the first day, with 19,330,480 Yen (approximately $130,000) contributed by 1,977 supporters. With 86 days left, all initial 2,300 pieces have already been claimed.
You might wonder why a large corporation like Casio is using crowdfunding. According to Casio’s translated statement, the “Sa-tokei” project originated from suggestions made by employees, not a typical watch initiative. Crowdfunding serves as a way to test the market’s acceptance of the “Sa-tokei.” The company has implemented the IBP (Idea Booster Program),” enabling employees to create new business ideas and develop skills to add customer value.
Design and Details of The Casio Sauna Watch
The Casio Sauna Watch CPP-002 features a MODE pusher at 10 o’clock, activating a 12-minute timer linked to the hour markers, which is ideal for sauna sessions. It uses a new heat-resistant battery to withstand sauna temperatures up to 100°C (212°F) for 15 minutes. The design minimizes heat transmission to sensitive internal components, but wearing it on the wrist is important to avoid overheating.
The Casio Sauna Watch has a case width of 35.4mm, a thickness of 12.9mm, and a lug-to-lug height of 40.2mm with a water resistance of 50 meters, weighing around 24.5g. The resin material minimizes heat buildup compared to metal and prevents fogging inside the watch. The case and expandable strap design were inspired by sauna timers and locker keys, familiar to sauna enthusiasts in Japan.
There are three versions of the Casio Sauna Watch: the CPP-002-OR in white and orange, the CPP-002-BK in all black, and the CPP-002-BU with a blue strap, which was created in collaboration with the popular sauna website and app Saunaikitai.
With the initial 2,300 pieces claimed through crowdfunding, the pricing for regular models was about $65, while the Saunaikitai model was $75. We’ll keep an eye on the Casio sauna watches and provide updates when deliveries begin in the summer of 2025. More information about the Casio Sauna Watch CPP-002 can be found on the related website.
