The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph is set to make waves in 2025, marking a significant year for the brand. The brand signed a decade-long partnership with Formula 1, the world’s most popular racing series, taking over from Rolex. This move comes after a successful few years, highlighted by the stunning Carrera Glassbox. Leading the lineup is the all-new Formula 1 Chronograph, a modern continuation of the original 1980s racing-inspired sports watch. It features a reworked case, updated materials, and vibrant colors. Let’s take a closer look.
Design and Details of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph
Case
The new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph keeps its connection to the 1980s sports watches but has been completely redesigned as a contemporary sports timepiece. The case is crafted from grade 2 titanium, showcasing sharp angles, clean cuts, and distinct facets. It measures 44mm in width and 14.1mm in thickness. While the size might seem large, the 47.3mm lug-to-lug measurement ensures it wears more comfortably than expected, making it smaller than the outgoing model.

The case of the new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph is topped with a fixed aluminum tachymeter bezel separated from the case by a colored ring that matches the accents on the crown and dials. A sapphire crystal completes the design, while the titanium case provides a matte finish, available in silver or black DLC coating. It also boasts a 200-meter water resistance.

Dial
The collection of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph includes five initial versions. Four standard models feature black dials paired with accents in red, lime green, or bright blue. A limited-edition Red Bull Racing Formula 1 model features a blue dial with a checkered pattern and red and yellow accents, along with a carbon fiber bezel insert.

All versions of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph share the same tri-compax layout, with a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a running seconds display at 9 o’clock. At 3 o’clock, there is a well-designed block containing the Formula 1 name, TAG Heuer logo, “automatic” text, and a date window. The matching colors on the dials extend to the case accents, the ring on the dial’s edge, the central chronograph hand, and the subdial hands.

Power
The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph features the Calibre 12 automatic chronograph movement, a variation of the trusted Valjoux 7750. It operates at 4Hz and has a 42-hour power reserve. Each watch comes with an integrated rubber strap, available in black or red, with the Red Bull Racing model featuring a blue strap.

Prices start at CHF 4,300 for the titanium models, with DLC-coated versions priced at CHF 4,600. The Red Bull Racing Edition is CHF 5,300. While not inexpensive, the pricing aligns with competitors in the market. A quartz version under CHF 2,000 would certainly attract even more interest. Expect additional color variations in the future, likely inspired by specific F1 races, similar to previous releases. For more information, visit the TAG Heuer website.
