STGK031 and STGK033, A Captivating Pair Ladies Watch From Grand Seiko

Grand Seiko’s two new 62GS models, the STGK031 and STGK033, highlight a different approach to women’s watches. For years, the watch industry has taken a somewhat dismissive stance when designing timepieces for women, who often have slimmer wrists and prefer smaller cases. To cater to this market, brands have typically followed a “shrink and pink” strategy—reducing the size of an SBGH368 model and adding elements considered “feminine,” such as pink dials and softer details.

The STGK031 and STGK033

Despite the size reduction, these remain true 62GS designs. They feature a box-shaped sapphire crystal, a bezel-free case structure, brushed surfaces with Zaratsu-polished accents, and sharp case and lug edges. The case width is now 30mm, and while it measures 10.5mm thick, a slightly thinner profile might have improved the proportions. However, water resistance remains a solid 100 meters, just like the larger versions.

The two models differ in dial color. The STGK031 carries Grand Seiko’s signature sakura-kakushi aesthetic, inspired by cherry blossoms hidden beneath early spring snow, giving it a soft pink hue. The STGK033, on the other hand, is based on sakura-tsukiyo, evoking cherry blossoms illuminated by hazy moonlight, resulting in a refined silver texture. Both models feature applied hour markers, sharply finished hands, and a framed date window at 3 o’clock.

Inside, the watches are powered by the Caliber 9S27, a compact automatic movement measuring 20mm wide and 4.49mm thick. Visible through the exhibition caseback, it showcases an escape wheel designed in the shape of a five-petaled flower, crafted using MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) technology. Operating at 4Hz, the movement delivers a 50-hour power reserve. Both models are paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet.
