Presage Collection
Seiko’s many sub-collections each serve a distinct purpose, and the Presage line is known for its classic design and refined craftsmanship. Within this collection, the Presage Craftsmanship Series showcases traditional Japanese artistry, featuring Enamel, Urushi lacquer, Arita porcelain, and Shippo enamel dials. The latest release, the Seiko Presage SPB495, honors Seiko’s first-ever watch, the 1895 Timekeeper, with a white enamel dial and Roman numerals.

Origin
Kintaro Hattori founded his workshop in 1881, focusing on watch and clock sales and repairs in central Tokyo. By 1892, he established Seikosha, initially producing clocks. In 1895, the brand introduced its first watch, the Timekeeper, a pocket watch with a white enamel dial and elongated Roman numerals, reflecting the practical and refined style of the time.

Enamel SPB495
In recent years, Seiko has revisited its early designs, particularly the 1913 Laurel, with releases like the 110-year limited edition SPB359. However, the 1895 Timekeeper has received less attention. To mark its 130th anniversary, Seiko now introduces the SPB495, a Presage Craftsmanship Series model inspired by this historic design. It features a white enamel dial and Roman numerals.

While the Craftsmanship Series focuses on classic aesthetics, the SPB495 has a more modern size. Its 40.2mm stainless steel case is 12.1mm thick with a 48mm lug-to-lug measurement. The case combines brushed and polished surfaces with an added protective coating. A sapphire crystal sits above the dial, and the watch has 100 meters of water resistance.

The Seiko 6R5H movement is powering the watch, running at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 72-hour power reserve. Seiko rates its accuracy at -15/+25 seconds per day. The watch is paired with a black leather strap secured by a three-fold clasp.

The Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series Enamel SPB495 is part of the standard collection and costs €1,500. The Seiko website has more details.
