The Purple Glassbox takes center stage at LVMH Watch Week, a key event for watch enthusiasts since its debut in 2020. Marking the start of each year with exciting releases and updates to iconic collections, this year is no exception. What immediately caught everyone’s attention was a pair of Carrera Chronographs featuring a fresh dial color, with a striking smoky gradient that fades from deep black to rich purple. Before then, Tag Heuer also made an incredible Monaco Chronograph Skeleton In Pink.
Design and the Details of the TAG Heuer Purple Glassbox
The Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox
Let’s start with the simpler of the two, the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox. It features a stainless steel case measuring 39mm in width and 13.86mm in thickness. The watch has a water resistance of 100 meters. The dial design is also recognizable, with two recessed sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, and a painted running seconds sub-dial at 6 incorporating a date window. The dial has a sunray-brushed finish, showcasing a stunning purple color that is most vivid from 12 to 6 o’clock and gradually fades to black along the edges. The applied markers and hands are silver, with faceted edges and lume-filled tips for visibility.

This watch features the TH20-00 movement, a 4Hz automatic column-wheel chronograph with an impressive 80-hour power reserve. It comes with a black perforated racing strap lined in purple, which beautifully matches the dial. This model of the Purple Glassbox collection is priced at CHF 6,500.

The Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon
Now, for the more complex piece, the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon. TAG Heuer needed a larger case to accommodate both a chronograph and a tourbillon. This Purple Glassbox model comes in a slightly bigger stainless steel case, measuring 42mm in width and 14.3mm in thickness, while maintaining a manageable lug-to-lug distance of 48mm. The dial is almost the same as the regular Chronograph, featuring the vibrant purple that fades to black, but the running seconds sub-dial at 6 is replaced with a cutout showcasing the tourbillon.

Inside the watch is the TH20-09 movement, an evolution of the Heuer 02 introduced in 2016. This movement is a column-wheel chronograph with bi-directional winding, operates at 4Hz and offers an 80-hour power reserve. It is COSC-certified for precision and features an updated rotor inspired by the TAG Heuer logo, resembling a coat of arms. The Tourbillon model also comes with the same black strap accented with purple. As expected, this version of the Purple Glassbox comes at a significantly higher price of CHF 34,000.
