Patek Philippe Cubitus 40mm made one of the biggest headlines in the watch world for 2025, marking the surprise of the brand’s first new addition. With its square case and clear Nautilus influence, the Cubitus stirred plenty of discussion and now replaces the Nautilus as the brand’s leading sporty luxury model for men.
Patek Philippe Cubitus 40mm
One of the main points of criticism for the original Cubitus models was the large case size — 45mm — which felt oversized at a time when many watch lovers were leaning toward smaller, more modest designs. However, Patek Philippe has been paying attention to the conversation. At Watches & Wonders 2025, they introduced two new Cubitus models with reduced dimensions: a 40mm case diameter and a slim 8.5mm thickness.

These Patek Philippe Cubitus 40mm include a white gold version with a blue-gray sunburst dial (Ref. 7128/1G-001) and a rose gold version with a brown sunburst dial (Ref. 7128/1R-001). Both watches adopt the Cubitus line’s new “medium” size and feature sharply contoured cases with a mix of vertical-brushed and polished finishes. Seeing both the original and smaller versions in person, it’s clear that the Patek Philippe Cubitus 40mm feel more refined on the wrist and doesn’t command attention in the same way the larger ones do.

The dials maintain the signature Nautilus-style horizontal embossing, along with baton-style hands and applied hour markers, all crafted in the same gold as the case and bracelet. The date window at 3 o’clock is faceted and also made of gold. The bracelet design stays true to the original, combining brushed and polished surfaces in a subtle yet eye-catching way.

Powering these Patek Philippe Cubitus 40mm is the same Caliber 26-330 S C as in the larger versions — a self-winding, in-house movement known for its detailed craftsmanship. With a 27mm diameter and 3.59mm thickness, it fits neatly in the smaller case. Through the sapphire caseback, you can see the movement’s gold rotor decorated with the côtes de Genève pattern and Patek Philippe’s Calatrava cross. The power reserve ranges from 35 to 45 hours.

With this size update, the Cubitus line is likely to win over more fans, especially those who were unsure about the original models. If Patek Philippe adds more complex movements in future versions, this collection could evolve in even more exciting directions — something well within the brand’s proven capabilities.
