Casio has a unique way of honoring its Japanese heritage. A few years ago, it commissioned the production of Juryoku-Maru: San, a highly special katana. G-Shock is launching the MRG-B2000JS, a new watch that draws inspiration from Juryoku-Maru: San.

Design and Details of MRG-B2000JS

Bezel

The first and most important piece of information is the MRG-B2000JS’s measurements, which are 54.7 × 49.8 × 16.9 mm. The recrystallized hybrid titanium bezel is the first thing that catches your eye. A three-dimensional mold of the blade pattern was used, using a mixture of 64 and pure titanium. Then there is the amazing blue-shell-textured bracelet that was inspired by the katana’s sheath. The patent-pending method used by Casio to generate these distinctive links results in light-reflecting microstructures on the metal surfaces, which give the links a dynamic, sparkling appearance that varies according to the light and viewing angle.

Dial

The katana serves as an inspiration for the dial as well. According to Casio, the indexes have been curled to mirror the katana’s curve, and the Hishimaki pattern was inspired by the way the sword’s handle wraps. The incredibly powerful G-Shock movement that comes with the watch can link to your mobile device and control a variety of features.

The Creators

The-Maru: San, a unique katana crafted by swordsmith Kamiyama Teruhira and artisan Nomura Mamoru using the aogai-nuri (blue inlaid pearl shell) lacquer technique, inspired the MRG-B2000JS-1A. The watch replicates the sword’s fine details, featuring a bezel made of recrystallized titanium with a gray-blue AIP®️️ layer to mimic the sword blade’s distinctive pattern. Casio creates unique designs on each watch by layering pure titanium and Ti64, which undergo a rigorous hardening process. The hand-engraved character 燦 (San), which means “radiance” or “brightness”, on the back adds a refined touch to the watch.

Strap

The strap is finished in DAT55G titanium alloy accented with the aogai-nuri technique, a lacquer pattern with inlaid mother-of-pearl, mimicking the intricate design of the sword’s scabbard. Using this technique helps the strap on the G-SHOCK MRG-B2000JS-1A create a sparkling effect and change color according to light. Each watch is individually numbered and has artisan Kamiyama Teruhira’s hand-engraved text on the back, giving each product a unique look.
