Chinese Zodiac Origin
In the past, humans did not know how to calculate and distinguish the time of days, months, and years, so the Jade emperor thought of a way: to choose 12 animals to name each year. The 12 Chinese zodiac animals are directly related to the year’s lunar cycle. Each year is represented by one of twelve animals. This year, the highlight is the Snake, symbolizing wisdom, rebirth, and vitality which the Longines Year of the Snake.
Longines Year of the Snake
Their latest limited edition, the Longines Year of the Snake, the Conquest Heritage model honoring the Chinese zodiac, features a bold and thoughtful design, making it a great addition to this year’s Lunar New Year offerings.
Dial
The standout feature of this new Longines Year of the Snake is the sunray gradient dial, which is both eye-catching and distinct. Red, a traditional color for the Chinese New Year, is an ideal choice that sets this model apart from the more neutral options of beige, black, and silver. The gradient design allows the lumped gold indices to shine while maintaining a balanced appearance against the stainless steel case.
Case
The true highlight of the Longines Year of the Snake is the engraved motif created by Chinese artist Wu Jian’an. His interpretation of “The Legend of the White Snake” shows a snake holding a mushroom, forming concentric circles at the center of the case back. According to both Longines and Wu, this design symbolizes harmony, prosperity, tradition, and the passage of time. While this is ambitious, a brand established in 1832 is well-equipped to deliver.
Power
Inside the 40mm case is the Longines L88.5 caliber automatic movement, which includes a silicon balance-spring for magnetic resistance that is ten times greater than standard. This movement offers up to 72 hours of power.
The Conquest Heritage Year of the Snake is currently available for a retail price of $3,150, with only 2,025 pieces produced as a limited edition. For more information, visit Longines’ website
