Elka Name Origin

Hakim El Kadiri resurrected the old Dutch name that used to be out of operation and now served as the foundation for the new Elka Watches brand a few years ago. He wanted to honor the old Dutch brand and revive the style of the 1960s with updated specifications, even though he had nothing related to the brand. Hakim broadens his horizons by introducing Loch Lat, a finely produced single malt whiskey, and a limited edition of his simple Elka Loch Lat featuring an amber-toned face.

Passion

This fresh project results from a three-year journey sparked by a superb whisky that a Belgian friend gave to Hakim El Kadiri. It came about out of an appreciation for both timekeeping and beverages. Hakim El Kadiri began to develop a counterpart situated in Neuchâtel with this in mind. El Kadiri managed the distillation process and meticulously chose the best malt must in collaboration with a skilled oenologist. After that, the wine was matured in repurposed cognac casks, which gave it a deep and nuanced flavor character. El Kadiri named Loch Lat after a nearby lake and adopted the Wheel of Saint Blaise as the brand’s logo.

Design and Details of Elka Loch Lat

The Elka Loch Lat is a simple timepiece measuring 40.8 mm in diameter, 10.8 mm in thickness, and 46 mm in length with a lightly curved case. A highly domed, pebble-shaped sapphire crystal sits atop it, shielding a dial that connects to the exquisite wine he also crafted. The Elka Loch Lat has a nicely brushed dial that is a whisky-matched honey gradient color with almost any printing and no indicators. The hours and minutes are shown by two leaf-shaped hands, while the sweeping seconds are shown by a straightforward baton hand. A contemporary automatic movement with a reasonable 68-hour power reserve, the La Joux-Perret G100, powers the watch.

Additionally, because watches are Hakim’s first passion, he has chosen to produce a limited edition of 25 timepieces of Elka Loch Lat, each of which will be accompanied by a special bottle of Loch Lat. However, it appears that only Switzerland is authorized for this offer, most likely as a result of international law. The price, including whiskey, is CHF 1,625 for the leather strap and CHF 1,662 for the steel strap. Visit the Elka website to learn more.
